New Car Service in Shepparton

Engines that operate through internal combustion rely on large amounts of clean air to ensure the fuel burns properly and generates the power needed to drive the vehicle. At Paulo's Automotive in Shepparton, we understand how vital it is to keep your car's air filter in good condition as part of protecting your engine's health. Your engine requires extremely clean air to function efficiently. Dirt, dust, and other particles entering the engine can cause serious damage. That’s where the air filter comes into play. It ensures the air entering the combustion chambers is clean, shielding key engine components such as the pistons and cylinders from wear and damage. Why Replace Your Air Filter? Save on Fuel Costs: Your engine requires the correct balance of fuel and air to run efficiently. A clogged air filter restricts airflow, causing your engine to run inefficiently – often referred to as ‘running rich.’ This not only puts additional stress on your engine but can also increase fuel consumption by up to 10%. No one likes spending more on petrol than necessary! Protect Your Engine: Over time, air filters become clogged and weaker, increasing the risk of damage. A damaged or overly dirty air filter can allow harmful particles to enter the engine, potentially leading to expensive repairs. Benefits of Replacing Your Air Filter: Extends the life of your engine Improves fuel efficiency Reduces vehicle emissions At Paulo's Automotive, we always check the condition of your air filter during every full car service. Whether it’s a major or minor service, or one that follows your manufacturer’s handbook or logbook guidelines, you can trust us to keep your engine running smoothly.

Keep your engine healthy with clean air filters. Improve fuel efficiency, reduce emissions, and extend engine life. Visit Paulo's Automotive for expert maintenance and reliable car servicing.

Few things are more frustrating than turning the key (or pressing the start button) and hearing nothing but silence. Car battery problems are one of the most common causes of breakdowns, and they often happen at the worst possible time. The good news? Most battery issues are preventable with the right knowledge and regular maintenance. At Paulo's Automotive, we help drivers stay on the road with reliable battery testing, replacement, and electrical system checks. Here’s everything you need to know about car battery problems—and how to avoid getting stranded. Common Signs of Car Battery Problems Your car battery rarely fails without warning. Knowing the early signs can save you from an unexpected breakdown: Slow Engine Crank - If your engine takes longer than usual to start, your battery may be losing its charge. Dimming Lights & Electrical Issues - Headlights, dashboard lights, or power windows that seem weak or inconsistent can indicate a failing battery. Clicking Sound When Starting - A clicking noise when you turn the key often means the battery doesn’t have enough power to start the engine. Battery Warning Light - If the battery light appears on your dashboard, it could signal a charging issue or battery fault. Corrosion on Battery Terminals - White or bluish residue around the battery terminals can interfere with performance and charging. What Causes Car Battery Failure? Understanding what leads to battery problems can help you avoid them: Age: Most car batteries last between 3–5 years Extreme Temperatures: Heat can damage internal components, while cold reduces battery power Short Trips: Frequent short drives don’t allow the battery to fully recharge Leaving Lights or Accessories On: A common cause of a flat battery Faulty Charging System: Issues with the alternator can prevent proper charging How to Avoid Getting Stranded Regular Battery Testing - Have your battery tested during routine servicing. This helps identify weak batteries before they fail. Replace Your Battery Before It Fails - If your battery is approaching 3–5 years old, it’s wise to replace it proactively. Keep Terminals Clean - Clean battery terminals ensure a strong connection and efficient power flow. Drive Your Car Regularly - Letting your car sit unused for long periods can drain the battery. Turn Off Electronics - Always double-check that headlights, interior lights, and accessories are switched off when leaving your vehicle. Get Your Charging System Checked - A healthy alternator is essential for keeping your battery charged. If you notice warning signs, get it inspected promptly. What To Do If Your Battery Goes Flat Even with the best care, batteries can fail. Here’s what to do: Try a jump start using jumper leads or a portable battery pack If the car starts, drive for at least 20–30 minutes to recharge If it doesn’t start, you may need a battery replacement or roadside assistance Visit Paulo's Automotive for a full battery and electrical system check Don’t wait until you’re stuck in a car park or stranded on the side of the road. A quick battery check can save you time, money, and stress. Book your battery inspection with Paulo's Automotive today and drive with confidence knowing your vehicle is ready for anything. Have more questions about your car battery? How do I know if my battery is getting flat or low? The most obvious sign of a flat battery is when your car won't start, but modern motor vehicles can show symptoms like non-essential functions not operating correctly - things like idle stop-start function not working, or the car's air-conditioning not working effectively.
Other signs you might need a new car battery include: Vehicle is slow to start Engine won't start Dash Lights work, but engine won't start Constantly needing a jump start Film or corrosion on the battery Cracked swollen or leaky battery Rotten egg smell under the hood Do I need a new car battery? The most obvious sign of a flat battery is when your car won't start. Modern motor vehicles can show symptoms like the idle stop-start not working or the car's air-conditioning not working to full capacity.

Other signs include cracked, dirty or leaky batteries, a rotten egg smell under the hood of your car, or regularly needing a jump start or recharge. The best way to know if you need a new battery is to get a car battery test at Paulo's Automotive Does a flat battery use more fuel? Yes! When your car battery is running flat, the alternator works harder to recharge the battery. This added load on the engine means it burns more fuel. Where can I buy a new car battery? Come in and see us! As a Repco Authorised Service Centre, Paulo's Automotive have access to the highest quality batteries to suit most vehicles. Who can test my car battery? Paulo's Automotive can do a battery load test. Phone us or visit the workshop today. Why choose Paulo's Automotive for a battery test? If you have concerns about your vehicle's performance, it is wise to get your battery tested at a full-service workshop like Paulo's Automotive rather than at a parts store. That's because we take into consideration the whole vehicle and can diagnose any deeper issues. There is nothing worse than replacing your car battery only to find the problem actually lies elsewhere… except maybe being told your battery test is fine with no explanation for your ongoing issues! Can my car battery be recharged? Yes, in fact the battery is being recharged by the alternator in your car whenever the engine is running. Sometimes this fix isn't enough, and your battery requires an external recharge. It's best to ask the professionals like our team at Paulo's Automotive about this, as you could void the battery warranty by recharging it yourself. Sometimes external recharging is not the best option because every battery eventually reaches a point in its life where replacement is the only answer to avoid unexpected breakdowns. Can I fit my battery myself? The short answer is yes...But! Modern vehicles are “computers on wheels”, so if you decide to DIY you must follow proper installation procedures to avoid damaging the ECM (Engine Control Module) and TCM (Transmission Control Module). Plus, if the battery gets incorrectly installed, items like the radio, the navigation system and security codes may need to be professionally reset. Talk to Paulo's Automotive today. We can recommend the right battery for your needs and install it for you.
